Mallorca & Balearic Islands

Spain and the Balearic Islands Spain has been incorporated as a full member of the European Union in 1989, since then Spain’s economy and infrastructure have highly profited from the European market.

Spain's holiday resorts at the Mediterranean Sea and the Canary Islands are Europe’s most famous holiday destinations. Probably the best known is Mallorca, one of the Balearic Islands.

Spain's capital Madrid is located almost in the country's geographical center. Spain is divided into several independent states of which the Balearic Islands are located 200 km east of Barcelona.
The Balearic Islands Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, Fomentera, and Cabrera are situated 200 km south of Barcelona off the east coast of Spain. In spite of the close proximity of the different islands, each one has its own very different landscape. Mallorca has a magnificent coastline with excellent beaches. Menorca is noted for its tranquility, while Ibiza is most famous for its extravagant nightlife.

Fomentera and Cabrera
are extremely solitary. There is a regular ferry service between Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza and excellent flight connection to the airports of Mallorca and Ibiza.

Mallorca

Mallorca is the largest island covering some 3,640 square km, the furthest distance that can be traveled is 120 km.

The island's capital Palma has a population of 320.000, which is practically half of the entire population of the island.

Many civilizations left their mark on the island of Mallorca. Today’s remainders are mainly from the Arabian and Roman Empire. The Spanish royal family takes their summer holidays here, so do millions of tourists drawn by the Mediterranean climate and the long sandy beaches. There are large, bustling resorts where the partying goes on all night in the south, and smaller, quieter coves which are just right for a relaxing holiday in the north.

Menorca

Menorca, with a population of 62.000 is a bright, radiant and very relaxed island.

Thanks to its shape, which is only 47 km long and between 10 to 19 km wide, it has a coastline of some 200 km. As a result, the entire island is really all coasts.

Ibiza

The island of Ibiza is the third largest, covering an area of 541 square km, with a population of over 70.000.

Thanks to its hilly terrain the island has magnificent scenery with isolated white sand beaches and clear water. Ibiza city is the center of young and extravagant nightlife.

Palma de Mallorca

Mallorca Palma, the island's capital, has a population of approximately 320.000. It stretches some 15 km along the coastline, from El Arenal and Palma beach in the east as far as the cosmopolitan districts of Cala Mayor and San Agustin in the west.

Most of the major buildings and monuments were constructed during the "Golden Age," between 1276 and 1344 under the rule of the Kingdom of Aragon.
the Cathedral Among the most impressive is the graceful Gothic Cathedral, which was commissioned by King Jaime I of Aragon in 1230.

Most of the main sights are located within this area bounded by the old walls:
-old Arab quarter with its maze of narrow streets hiding palaces and courtyards,
- Palacio de Almudaina, where the Christian kings had their residence, and
-La Lonja, the old trade centre
now converted into an exhibition centre.

The modern Palma has a wide range of exquisite restaurants, cafeterias, pubs, concert halls, discotheques, a bull-ring, and all types of shows, offering the visitor entertainment and amusement at all times.
Palacio Almudaina
Palma also offers splendid gardens with fountains and el Paseo Marítimo, the wide, paved promenade, with its impressive palm trees, which runs along the whole bay.

Palma is stylish, sophisticated and intimate yet bursting with life,
a city you will love and no doubt return to.
